Who We Are

We are a Southern Baptist church family in Williamsburg, Virginia, serving our community since 1956. We are learning the Bible so that we can be a church that loves God and others through the grace of God.

What We Believe

We agree with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000 — the Bible as God's inspired Word, salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and the church as a family on mission together.

Preaching & Teaching

Our Home

1013 Penniman Road — a place of worship, learning, fellowship, and prayer. Whoever you are and wherever you are on your journey, there is a seat for you here.

What Do Southern Baptists Believe?

Southern Baptist churches are independent congregations that choose to cooperate together, and our shared confession is the Baptist Faith & Message 2000. At its center stands the Bible itself: Scripture is God's inspired, trustworthy Word — "a perfect treasure of divine instruction" — and the measure for everything we believe and do. That is why so much of life at Grace is simply opening the Book together.

From Scripture flows the heart of the message: salvation is by grace alone, through faith in Jesus Christ — a gift of God's mercy, never a wage earned by good behavior. Because faith is a personal response, Baptists practice believer's baptism, baptizing by immersion those who have trusted Christ for themselves. Each congregation governs its own life under the Lordship of Christ (church autonomy), every believer may come directly to God (the priesthood of all believers), and religious liberty is honored for all people.

Southern Baptists also share a calling: the Great Commission — carrying the good news of Jesus to neighbors and nations alike. And that explains our name. Of everything the Bible teaches, grace — God's undeserved kindness to us in Jesus Christ — is the one word we most want to be known by: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God."

One Library, One Story

The Bible is a library of 66 books — 39 in the Old Testament, 27 in the New — written across roughly 1,500 years by around 40 writers: shepherds and kings, fishermen and a physician, a tax collector and a tentmaker. Together they tell one story of God's grace from beginning to end.

The King James Version

Commissioned by King James I in 1604 and first published in 1611, the KJV was prepared by some 47 scholars working in companies at Oxford, Cambridge, and Westminster. The Scriptures were originally written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek — what you'll read here is that beloved English translation, treasured for over four centuries.
